What’s out there?

“NEW YORK (Reuters) – A tribute written by American novelist and satirist Mark Twain to his daughter, who died of spinal meningitis at the age of 24, sold at auction on Thursday for $242,500, almost doubling pre-sale estimates.

The unpublished “A Family Sketch” was a 64-page, handwritten manuscript that Twain wrote around 1896 or 1897 for Olivia “Susy” Clemens, who inspired some of his stories and even wrote her own biography of her father.

The document also reminisced about his own childhood and was described as the missing chapter of his autobiography.”

La Feria de Libro de Madrid ya ha comenzado y este año son los países nórdicos los invitados de honor de esta edición de la feria.  Hay más de 500 autores nórdicos publicados en España

Como cada año, la feria toma lugar en el emblemático zona del los Jardines del Retiro.  Una buena excusa para un paseo ó simplemente para encontrarte con tu autor favorito.

The Madrid Book Fair has already begun and this year the guests of honour of the nordic countries.  There are over 500 nordic authors published in Spain.

As every year, the fair takes place in the emblematic area of the Retiro Park.  A good excuse for a stroll or simply to meet your favourite author.

LibrOviedo, the week-long book fair held in the capital of the Principality of Asturias, opens its doors today.  The fair is organised yearly by booksellers in Oviedo and this year runs from 7 May until 16 May 2010.  It’s a perfect moment to browse through a good range of books under one roof - or tent - in the centre of the vibrant city of Oviedo.  There will be author signings, book presentations and various activities;  LibrOviedo is growing every year to the extent that no bookseller - or publisher - will want to miss it.

Q: What is the Escuela de Escritura (Writing School)?
A: The Escuela de Escritura is a pioneer initiative in the academic world. It was created with the aim to provide a service to the university community when writing documents, whether they be administrative or academic documents or research papers; but it was also to provide students with the opportunity to improve their use of (the Spanish) language if they had an interest in creative writing.
