Juanjo Alonso describes the North Route in 13 stages for ciclists. This Way of St James route is an interesting alternative for ciclists to the over-popular French Route, particularly during the summer months. Whoever has walked or cicled the French Route and is looking for a new experience along the coastal route shouldn't fall into a simple comparison of the two because they are completely different from a geographical standpoint, and something that pilgrims on bikes should take into account.
The North Route is the hardest of all and the most demanding; some ascents can be over a thousand meters and on the whole, the adverse weather in the Cantabrian coastline is uncomparable to the calm Castillian plains and Leonese landscape. Nevertheless, you will be compensated with a green world of forests, meadows, fertile plains and beautiful rural villages; a demanding yet peaceful route embraced by sea breezes and the aroma of eucalyptus.
This guide provides you with all the information you will need to prepare your trip: all the hostals and information on them, services in villages en route and what you shouldn't miss. Fully illustrated with a detailed map, a profile of the stage and accompanying photographs. |

The Val d'Aran is the only Atlantic valley in Spain and a great place for snow. It has several surrounding valleys that make it ideal for winter hikes. It is also close to the National Park of d’Aigüestortes, making the area one of the most attractive of the Pyrenees.
This guide gathers information on this area to accompany classic excursions to the valley, such as the Tuc de Salana, Montardo, Vacivèr or Tuc dera Pincèla. It offers some 75 itineries of varying difficulty and length.
The 75 routes are traced on the map with full colour photographs, along with a detailed description of the route and all the information you will need to know before you set out.
As the use of snowshoes is growing, each entry includes information for doing the same route with snowshoes instead of skis.

Due to their altitude, the mountains found between the Canigó and the highest part of the Catalonian municipalities of Ripollés and Conflent are used to receiving important snowfalls every winter which create the snow corridors that are the focus of this guidebook.
This new work by Pako Sánchez gathers a total 42 slopes and 164 corridors. offering both research work and tireless explorations. The guide presents valleys and well-known areas, such as the summits of Gra de Fajol. Similarly, we can read about less visited mountain slopes such as the Norte del Pic de l'Infern, the glacial cirque of Cambrasdase and others that are less covered, such as the Roc del Boc, the Pic Rodó or the Este del Torre d'Eina slope.
It also serves as the official presentation of the last slopes that still had not been explored in this area of the Pyrenees: Pic de Prats de Bacivers, Pic de la Dona and the Racons. |

A total of 50 ascents that will take us to the highest points along the Spanish mountain ranges: from the wild peaks of the Pyrenees to the smooth Sierra Navarra, passing through the Central System and through the European Peaks and the Cantabrian Chain. The degree of difficulty and physical endureance required is varying but, they are pefectly described by the author in the introduction: from the lowest difficulty ascents where you will use your hands occassionally to the highest difficulty ascents, which will require the highest physical training and experience in high mountains.
So that we don't get lost, each ascent is perfectly described including the most significant crosspoints. We have included panoramic, full colour photographs on which we have marked the route and also the corresponding map and technical sheet.

The Pilgrims' Way to Santiago de Compostela is an important cultural, tourist and social event which attracts people for reasons of religion, sport, curiosity or because a friends has 'roped us in'. The reason is least important, what is extraordinary is that the phenomena of the Way reunites people from all backgrounds, ideologies and nationalities on the same road and for one same objective.
The Way is the culmination of magical signs and rudamentary messages carved into the stone of Romanesque temples. It is a route created by the walker and each village, mountain and forest has an eternal and permanent mark of the passage of thousands of pilgrims. But in the 21st century, the times and means of travel have changed. We need travel guides, maps, signs, marks and clear and precise information.
.
This third edition provides you with all the practical information necessary to plan your own trip. The guide El Camino de Santiago is structured around thirty stages, apart from the six stages for the Aragon route, depending where you decide to start from, whether Sant-Jean-Pied de Port or in Somport. You will also discover the history and legends that have accompanied the Ruta de las Estrellas, (Way of the Stars) and which will let you make your route to Santiago de Compostela your own. |

This guide offers updated and thorough information on the Camino del Norte (the north St James' Way), which is the coastal variant of the French pilgrims' route to Santiago de Compostela. It begins in Irún and runs along the Cantabrian coast through the Basque Country, Cantabria, Asturias and Galicia and ends in Santiago de Compostela. This route has been covered for centuries by pilgrims devoted to St James, but which today has been revitalised, offering new alternatives to the present popularity of the French route, particularly in the summer months.
The author, Juanjo Alonso, proposes a route on foot in 28 stages, but if you choose to go by bicycle, he also provides an annex of 12 bicycle pilgrim routes with practical information.
The main objective of this guide is to facilitate the preparation and execution of the north or coastal route to Santiago de Compostela, with information provided on some of the routes taken by medieval pilgrims since the beginning of these pilgrimmages to the tomb of the apostol St James. The guide provides a historical and cultural introduction to St James' Way and to discoveries that have formed the foundations for this thousand-year old route in Western Europe.
The descriptions of the route at various stages focuses on art, legends, history or landscapes linked to the pilgrims' way. The yellow arrows painted on the crosses, confluences and forks along the Way act as a guide to the St James' pilgrim without the need of extra data on the direction to take, except in particular spots or conflictive places that are indicated as such in texts or maps. It also includes all the necessary practical information to plan such a trip. |
